Wells' science fiction work The Food of the Gods and How It Came to Earth is divided into three books named The Discovery of the Food, The Food in the Village, and The Harvest of the Food. The research of Mr. Bensington and Professor Redwood leads to invention of Herakleophorbia, a substance which can make growth of anything to more than six folds of its original size. Mr. and Mrs. Skinner were deputed to feed the Herakleophorbia to chickens in a farm. They misuse the product and make it available in the local stores. It result in the contemporary society to handle a world giant chickens, plants, rats, rabbits and even babies. An angry mob attacks the scientist and eventually he retires from his research.
