Democracy in America is written by Alexis de Tocqueville, a historian and a French political thinker known for his masterpieces of "Democracy in America" and "The Old Regime and the Revolution".

This book being the first of the two volumes, examines the seven hundred years of democratic revolution. The success of republican representative democracy in the United States and failure of it in other countries including the author’s native country is the primary analysis behind this book. Alexis went on to speculate the possible dangers also by analyzing the risk of tyranny of the majority and the tendency to degenerate soft despotism.
