Andersonville: A Story of Rebel Military Prisons is the historical of the exploration of the Confederate prisoner of war camp, written by the American Journalist and soldier John McElroy who was confined in the prison for fifteen months during the American civil war. His other notable works are The Red Acorn, The Economic Functions of Vice, and Struggle for Missouri.

The author mentions in his introductory note that, this work narrate the centuries of cursed slaves’ deadly revenge on the white race during the war. It should be a thoughtful fact that Andersonville camp commandant Henry Wirz was the only person to be executed on of the war crimes. This book was published after the author was released from the captivity. As soon as it was published, became the best seller and remained popular for next twenty years.
